Cathedral in the Night

Cathedral in the Night

OUTSIDE, front of First Churches
across from Thorne's Market
Sunday Nights, 5-7pm

Cathedral in the Night will be moving to the front of First Churches -- across from Thorne's Market -- the first Sunday in March, and looks forward to returning to the space between St. John's and the Smith Art Museum in the near future.

Cathedral in the Night is a new ministry in downtown Northampton, MA which seeks to create a Christian community as a a safe place for young people to explore, question and live out their spiritual beliefs; to gather for a meal, fellowship and worship with persons who are homeless and helping; and, to empower that community to engage in issues of social justice by working to fight the causes of homelessness.

Worship is an integration of contemplative worship (modeled after the communities of Iona, Holden and Taize) and contemporary context (multi-sensory and participatory, using the talents of local musicians, poets, artists and lighting engineers). It is a place and an activity which fosters an atmosphere of spiritual curiosity and exploration, in order to create a community of support, challenge and deeper faith.

Worship concludes with Eucharist which then leads into a meal offered freely to all present, especially persons who are homeless. Congregations and restaurants are being asked to prepare, donate and help serve the meals.

Worship began on January 23rd and Continue through mid-May, rain, snow, or shine. We will have a tent/pavilion when the weather is bad and light when it is dark.
