The Parish Choir of Saint John’s Church
The Parish Choir is comprised of 12 – 16 volunteer singers from all four voice parts. The choir sings music ranging from medieval plainsong through contemporary compositions of the 20th and 21st centuries. Choir rehearsal is weekly on Thursdays beginning at 7:30 pm On major Holy Days the choir is joined by a few section leaders who assist in maintaining four part choral music when regular choir members cannot participate. In addition it sings at special services especially during Holy Days. Currently there are Evensongs (sung Evening Prayer) scheduled for 4PM on four Sundays throughout the year. The group sings from the Sunday after Labor Day through early-mid June and is always looking to welcome new members into its company.
At numerous times throughout the year several concerts are presented in the Church by numerous choral and instrumental groups. Many of these concerts feature presentations by students from the University and other Colleges located in the Pioneer Valley. The community is always welcomed into the church for these events and many of them are presented without charge. A free will offering is generally requested to help defray the churches costs (lights, heat, etc.) for making these concerts possible. All concerts are advertised in advance to parishioners and the community at large.
